Hair PRP vs the Newest Growth Factor Therapies

Directed Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy to the scalp uses a component of your blood to promote hair health, growth and the longevity of hair follicles. Diet, nutrition, sleep, exercise and healthy hair treatments and products work together. products, Natural aging process affects hair loss, and the point at which people begin to lose more hair than they grow can vary widely.

Noticeable Hair Loss Begins in Your 30s

Some people notice early signs of poor hair health and hair thinning or loss in their 20s or 30s.  It is normal to lose about 100 hairs a day. Genetic predisposition to types of alopecia causes early baldness.  During 40s and 50s hair growth naturally slows. Additionally, hair follicles may shrink, leading to thinner, poorer texture, and less hair overall. The 60s accelerates hair thinning and loss. Increasingly hair follicles inactivate or stop producing hair altogether, leading to reduced hair density.

Genetics and hormones affects Hair Loss Timing

The most significant factor is genetic predisposition. Family members with early hair loss, often translates into loss of hair earlier than average. Hormonal changes, adrenal stress and thyroid conditions, particularly through menopause increases hair loss. In men, the metabolite dihydrotestosterone (DHT) plays a significant role in pattern baldness. Nutritional deficiencies, and autoimmune diseases accelerates hair loss. Smoking, sun exposure, and increased blood toxins such as mercury smoking all contributes to earlier and more significant hair loss. Hair supplements may be helpful.

Understand the Natural Hair Cycle

It normal to lose some hair each day (50-100 hairs). The hair growth cycle involves three phases: anagen (growth), catagen (transitional), and telogen (resting/shedding). As we age, the anagen phase shortens, leading to less hair growth and more hair in the resting/shedding phase, contributing to overall thinning. With increasing age the resting cycle fades into follicular death, that hair follicle loses it’s stem cells and can never return. Supplements slow the losses.

Preventive Measures And Medicines

We evaluate hormonal and nutritional health, helping to guide a therapeutic approach for you.  Oral medications are very helpful, like Minoxidil, Spironolactone, Dutasteride or Finasteride monitored by a medical provider. Low-level laser therapy can help but it takes 1-2 years of diligent use to see effects. Early intervention with hair growth products and androgen blockers can help.

PRP, Exomes and Platelet Derived Growth Factors are among the newest tools. Hair line  microneedling brings blood flow to this area and can enhance the absorption of these growth enhancing treatments.

What PRP or PGDF+ for Hair Does

Stimulates Hair Growth:  PRP contains growth factors that are thought to help stimulate the hair follicles, which can lead to thicker, healthier hair. It may prolong the growing phase of the hair cycle, potentially leading to more hair growth over time.

Improves Hair Density: Patients may notice an increase in the density and thickness of their hair in the treatment area as the treatment helps strengthen existing hair follicles.

Reduces Hair Loss: By revitalizing hair follicles, PRP may reduce the rate of hair loss, helping to maintain hair volume.

Enhances Hair Health: PRP can improve the overall health of the scalp and hair, potentially leading to shinier and more resilient hair.

Effectiveness:

The effectiveness of PRP for hair loss can vary from person to person. Some may see significant improvement, while others may experience only modest benefits. several sessions are required for optimal results, often spaced a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments every few months.

Safety and procedure of prp

PRP uses your own blood, the risk of allergic reactions or complications is minimal. However,  there may be some discomfort or minor side effects like temporary swelling or redness at the injection site. A small amount of your blood is drawn, typically from your arm. The blood is placed in specialized tube then into a centrifuge, a machine that spins at high speeds to separate the blood into its different components. This process concentrates the platelets in the plasma, creating what is known as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). The PRP is then injected into the areas of the scalp where hair thinning or loss is occurring. The high concentration of growth factors in the PRP is believed to stimulate hair follicles, encouraging hair growth and improving the health of existing hair.

PGDF is the most potent component of the growth factors obtained with PRP. It is synthetic, FDA approved for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and in orthopedic surgery and does not require a blood draw.
